With Dr. Martens in Japan

November, 2020

Last but certainly not least in my Dr. Martens hat trick of posts: my trip to Japan with them to launch the Tattoo Collection.

I was honoured to be invited to to Dr. Martens store in Aoyama, Tokyo for the official launch of the project along with my co-creators Grez from NYC and OT (who obviously hails from Tokyo).

The day before, we had the press photoshoot for several magazines and did a fair few interviews as well… a cool but slightly surreal experience. On the day of the launch, we all took part in a live (boot) tattoo performance, creating custom Docs for Tokyo’s DM wearers and meeting all sorts of people. It was damn cool to feel famous for a day! I’m a regular visitor to Japan, but could never get tired of such an amazing place.

It was a whirlwind visit – tiring but pretty exhilarating. I did have a little Bill Murray moment during my trip. As I was driving in a taxi, we went past the Dr. Martens store in Harajuku, and my name and boot were both there in the shop window. Ot reminded me of that scene from Lost in Translation where Bill Murray sees the giant billboards advertising Suntory Whisky as he’s also driven through Tokyo in a taxi.

This entire project was a dream come true and I can’t really thank the team at Dr. Martens enough for working with me.

If any other iconic British brands would like to get in touch about a collaboration, my contact details can be found here. 😉
